Ashley Mullins, Methamphetamine Smuggling, Florida 2024
TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA – In a shocking turn of events, Ashley Mullins, 40, of Appalachia, Virginia, has been sentenced to one year and one day in federal prison for introducing methamphetamine into Tallahassee Federal Correctional Institution.
According to court records, Mullins was caught by a Bureau of Prisons officer while she was walking with an object bulging in her pocket. The officer directed the defendant to empty her pockets and discovered several contraband items, including a crystal substance and a crystal powder substance in a bag. Later forensic testing confirmed the substances were methamphetamine.
The conviction and sentence were the result of a joint investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Prisons. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Eric Welch.
U.S. Attorney John P. Heekin said: “This inmate now has an extended stay in our federal prison after trying to smuggle these deadly drugs into the correctional facility. My office remains committed to keeping these drugs off our streets and out of our prisons.”
