Roger Slaughter, 35, of Perry, Florida, was sentenced to five years in federal prison followed by four years of supervised release after pleading guilty to possession with intent to distribute 5 grams or more of actual methamphetamine. The case exploded from a string of controlled buys orchestrated by Taylor County investigators who tracked Slaughter’s drug operations for weeks. On February 3, 2021, law enforcement executed a search warrant at his residence, uncovering approximately 25 grams of methamphetamine, 58 grams of marijuana, multiple firearms, ammunition, and a stash of cash tied to drug sales.
Slaughter’s operation may have seemed low-level, but the presence of loaded weapons alongside bulk narcotics elevated the threat to the community, federal prosecutors said. The Drug Enforcement Administration and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives joined the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office and Perry Police Department in building the case, underscoring the reach of local-federal drug task forces.
Assistant United States Attorney Gary Milligan prosecuted the case with a no-frills approach, emphasizing the danger posed by dealers who arm themselves and distribute poison in neighborhoods. “This isn’t just possession—it’s distribution with a trigger finger,” said an insider familiar with the prosecution’s stance.
