Monroe Man Sentenced for Methamphetamine Distribution

A 36-year-old Monroe man has been sentenced to 77 months in prison for distributing methamphetamine. Antonio D’Andre Holmes was found guilty of one count of distribution of methamphetamine and was sentenced to three years of supervised release.

According to the March 8, 2016 guilty plea, Holmes was recorded selling methamphetamine on August 13 and 25, 2015. A confidential informant picked up the illegal drugs at Holmes’ Monroe residence and paid a total of $3,180. The methamphetamine bought during the sales weighed a total of 47.8 grams.

The defendant was arrested as part of Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) Operation “River City Blues.” The investigation was conducted by the DEA, the Louisiana State Police, and the Lufkin Police Department.

The OCDETF program is a joint federal, state and local cooperative approach to combat drug trafficking and is the nation’s primary tool for targeting national and regional level drug trafficking organizations.

Assistant U.S. Attorney James G. Cowles Jr. prosecuted the case.

Monroe, Louisiana, is dealing with the aftermath of a major drug bust. The city has seen a significant decrease in methamphetamine distribution since the arrest of Antonio D’Andre Holmes.

While some may see this as a victory, others are concerned about the long-term effects of the sentence. With Holmes facing 77 months in prison, many are left wondering what will happen to the community he once served.
