Jeremiah Romo, a 21-year-old resident of Aplington, Iowa, has been sentenced to over 16 years in federal prison for possessing child pornography. The sentence was handed down by United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade in Cedar Rapids.
Romo pleaded guilty on May 27, 2014, to one count of possession of child pornography, which included depictions of prepubescent children. He also admitted to a prior adjudication of delinquency for sexual abuse in the second degree in 2008.
The sentence includes a 20-year term of supervised release and a $100 special assessment. Romo must comply with all sex offender registration and public notification requirements.
Assistant United States Attorney Mark Tremmel prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, and the Champaign County, Illinois, Sheriff’s Office. The sentence is part of Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative to combat child sexual exploitation.
