Appleton’s Jeffrey Melgar will spend the next decade in federal prison after being sentenced to a decade behind bars for distributing massive amounts of methamphetamine. The 33-year-old, who recently relocated from California, was caught selling over 500 grams of the drug in the Fox Valley, according to U.S. Attorney Matthew D. Krueger.
Documents reveal that Melgar received packages of meth from a California source and distributed them locally for $600 an ounce. The justice system took swift action, with Chief Judge William C. Griesbach noting the severity of Melgar’s offense and emphasizing the need for deterrence in Northeast Wisconsin.
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Lake Winnebago Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group collaborated to investigate the case, which Assistant United States Attorney Daniel R. Humble prosecuted with vigor. Melgar was sentenced to ten years in federal prison followed by six years of supervised release.
“Melgar’s sentence sends a clear message that drug trafficking will not be tolerated,” said Krueger. “The safety and well-being of our community are paramount, and we will continue to pursue those who threaten them with harsh consequences.”
This case underscores the ongoing battle against drug crime in Wisconsin and the commitment of law enforcement agencies to crack down on such activities.
