Grimy Times has learned that an Arizona man has been sentenced to 37 months in custody for his role in a methamphetamine conspiracy that stretched across state lines.
David Scott Wright, 49, of Scottsdale, Arizona, was sentenced on January 28, 2013, by United States District Judge Karen E. Schreier. Wright’s sentence will be followed by 4 years of supervised release.
The indictment against Wright, which came on May 1, 2012, accused him of conspiring to distribute 50 grams or more of a mixture containing methamphetamine. Wright pleaded guilty to the offense on November 6, 2012.
According to court documents, Wright was part of a group of people who agreed to distribute methamphetamine in South Dakota and elsewhere. Between August 2011 and January 2012, Wright distributed methamphetamine to co-conspirators who had traveled to Arizona and then returned to South Dakota to distribute the drug.
The investigation into Wright’s activities was a collaborative effort between the SD Division of Criminal Investigation and the US Drug Enforcement Administration. Assistant US Attorney John E. Haak prosecuted the case.
Wright was immediately turned over to the custody of the US Marshal following his sentencing. The case serves as a reminder of the ongoing threat of methamphetamine trafficking in our region.
