DETROIT — A relentless string of robberies culminated in the capture of Markiese King, 31, a Detroit thug who authorities say went on a criminal spree following an escape from custody. United States Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon Jr. announced charges against King this week, including Prisoner Escape and three counts of Interference with Commerce by Robbery.
According to the indictment, King hit the streets after allegedly robbing a Dollar General store on May 20, 2025, where he brandished a firearm and demanded cash from workers. Just three days later, on May 23, 2025, King struck again at an Advance Auto Parts in Warren, Michigan, intimidating staff for money.
But it was the daring escape that sent shockwaves through the city. King fled the Cherry Health Residential Reentry Center, a facility he was already locked up in following a previous conviction, on May 28, 2025. Days later, on May 30, 2025, he struck again at an AutoZone in Highland Park, Michigan, using a pistol to rob employees.
King’s capture was the result of a massive law enforcement effort that involved the Detroit Police Department, Warren Police Department, Highland Park Police Department, and federal agencies including the FBI’s Macomb County Gang and Violent Crime Task Force, the Detroit Violent Crime Task Force, and the U.S. Marshal’s Service.
While an indictment is not proof of guilt, it does lay out the charges against King. Assistant United States Attorney Micah Wallace is handling the prosecution of this case, ensuring that justice will be served.
The gritty streets of Detroit have once again seen the fruits of a hard-fought victory for law enforcement, as Markiese King faces a lengthy legal battle.
