Crips Member Leonard Williams Jr. Sentenced to 6 Years for Cocaine, Gun Charges

Raleigh, N.C. – Leonard Williams Jr., a 36-year-old Greenville gang member, is going away for six years after being sentenced for possession with intent to distribute a quantity of cocaine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.

On February 18, 2025, Williams Jr. pled guilty to the charges, which brought a total sentence of 72 months in prison. But what exactly led to this conviction? According to court documents and other information presented in court, the Greenville Regional Drug Task Force conducted several controlled purchases of cocaine from Williams Jr. during July and August 2024.

The task force, consisting of local and federal law enforcement agencies, made several buys from Williams Jr., leading to a search warrant being executed on August 12, 2024, at a residence associated with the defendant on Ward Street. Inside, they found more than an ounce of cocaine and a loaded .40 caliber handgun in the bedroom.

Williams Jr. has a prior conviction from 2016 for conspiracy to commit second degree murder, making him a known associate of the 83 set of the Crips street gang. This case is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) investigation, which aims to dismantle high-level drug traffickers and gangs across the United States.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy Severo handled the case, while the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Greenville Regional Drug Task Force conducted the investigation. Daniel P. Bubar, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, made the announcement after sentencing by U.S. District Judge James C. Dever III.

As for Williams Jr., he’ll be serving his sentence at a federal prison, with the possibility of early release depending on his behavior and completion of any required programs. But one thing’s for sure – this Crips member won’t be peddling cocaine on the streets of Greenville for a while.

The OCDETF investigation continues to bring down high-level drug traffickers and gangs across the country, using a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven, multi-agency approach to dismantle these networks. Williams Jr. is just the latest example of the results of this effort.

In the end, justice has been served, and the people of Greenville can rest a little easier knowing that one less gang member is on the streets. But the war on drugs is far from over, and we’ll continue to follow the story as it develops.
