ORLANDO, FL – In a shocking turn of events, 41-year-old Darrell Roby, a notorious armed career criminal, has pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a previously convicted felon in federal court. According to court documents, Roby sold prescription pills to a confidential informant on January 27, 2014, and a Smith and Wesson .38 caliber revolver on February 12, 2014.
The deal went sour when Roby agreed to sell 500 pills of Oxycodone to a confidential informant for $12,500, which was scheduled to take place at his residence on February 26, 2014. However, a federal search warrant was obtained and executed at Roby’s residence, leading to his arrest. During the search, Roby was found to be in possession of a stolen Glock firearm, which is a serious offense considering his prior record.
Roby’s prior state felony convictions include burglary, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, escape, introduction or possession of contraband in a state correctional facility, delivery of cocaine, possession of cocaine, and delivery of a controlled substance. As a previously convicted felon, Roby is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition under federal law. His prior criminal record includes several violent felonies and a serious drug offense, qualifying him for enhanced sentencing as an Armed Career Criminal under federal law.
Roby faces a mandatory minimum term of 15 years in federal prison, up to life. Sentencing has been set for August 20, 2014. The case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, the Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
