Armed Dealer Gets 15 Years for Meth Trafficking

OAKLAND – Jeffery Andrew Sardell, a 29-year-old Hayward resident, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation.

According to court documents, Sardell was arrested in January 2015 after a parole search by Hayward Police officers. The search turned up more than $1,700 in cash, loaded firearms in his car and house, and methamphetamine, packaging materials, and a scale in his bedroom.

Sardell was already on parole following an assault conviction and on probation for possessing methamphetamine for sale. He pleaded guilty to possessing two firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking in December 2015 and was subsequently sentenced by United States District Court Judge James Donato.

The plea agreement revealed that Sardell had been carrying a loaded .22 caliber firearm in his car and possessed a second loaded .45 caliber firearm inside his residence near his methamphetamine stash. He admitted to possessing approximately 340 grams of methamphetamine, packaged for distribution in 12 separate one-ounce baggies.

Sardell was charged by a federal grand jury in a Superseding Indictment returned on August 27, 2015, for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and methamphetamine, and possession of firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking.

This case was the result of an investigation by the Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations San Francisco Field Office, and the Hayward Police Department. The investigation highlighted the dangers of methamphetamine trafficking and the importance of law enforcement working together to combat it.

Sardell’s sentence serves as a reminder of the consequences of engaging in such activities. As the investigation and subsequent arrest demonstrate, law enforcement is committed to taking down those who would harm our communities through these types of crimes.
