A federal judge in Alabama has handed down a harsh sentence to a man caught with a gun and multiple types of drugs during a routine traffic stop.
Dylan Robert Davison, 27, of Loxley, Alabama, was stopped by Elberta police officers on Wortel Road near Highway 98 in Baldwin County, Alabama, for making an illegal U-turn.
During the search of his vehicle, officers found a gun and several different types of drugs. Davison admitted to owning the items after being informed of his rights.
On June 14, 2018, Davison pleaded guilty to the gun charge in federal court, and yesterday, United States District Court Judge Kristi K. Dubose sentenced him to 5 years imprisonment, to be followed by a five-year term of supervised release.
The judge also ordered Davison to undergo testing and treatment for substance abuse in prison and while under supervision. He was ordered to pay the $100 special mandatory assessment, but no fine was imposed.
The case was investigated by the Elberta Police Department and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force. It was prosecuted in the United States Attorney’s Office by Assistant United States Attorney Gloria A. Bedwell.
According to authorities, the investigation was a result of a joint effort to take down individuals involved in drug trafficking and gun-related crimes.
Davison’s sentencing serves as a reminder of the severe consequences individuals face when caught engaging in such activities.
This case highlights the importance of community policing and collaboration between local law enforcement agencies and federal authorities in combating crime.
