A reign of gunpoint terror swept through Greenbelt, Maryland in the summer of 2023, leaving nine victims shaken and a string of businesses robbed of over $3,000. Derek Lynn Davis, 36, and his co-conspirators struck six times, sometimes hitting multiple businesses in one day, from July to August 2023.
Armed to the teeth, Davis and his crew would storm into the establishments, demand the cash registers be opened, and in some cases, fire their guns. The round from one firearm even struck the ground mere feet away from two victims during one robbery.
The FBI, Prince George’s County Police, and U.S. Attorney Kelly O. Hayes worked together to bring an end to the spree, leading to Davis’s 13-year prison sentence and five years of supervised release.
This case is part of the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence nationwide.
