Army Officer Guilty of Child Pornography
Tampa, FL – A U.S. Army member stationed at MacDill Air Force base has pleaded guilty to producing child pornography, according to federal officials.
Thomas Meyer, 42, of Riverview, faces a mandatory minimum of 15 years, up to a maximum of 30 years in federal prison for his crimes. This sentence comes after Meyer pleaded guilty to production of child pornography in a U.S. District Court.
According to court documents, Meyer used Yahoo! Messenger to have sexually explicit online chats with two victims: a female minor in Pennsylvania and an undercover detective in Kentucky. Between October 2011 and January 2012, Meyer engaged in these illicit conversations.
Meyer requested that the minor female from Pennsylvania send him three pornographic photographs, which she did. He then sent the undercover detective images of child and adult pornography, as well as an explicit video of himself. Meyer attempted to persuade the detective to send him sexually explicit pictures of herself.
This case was investigated by multiple federal and local law enforcement agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the MacDill Air Force Base Office of Special Investigations (OSI), the Largo Police Department, the Kenton County Police Department, the Pennsylvania State Police, and the United States Postal Inspection Service. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer L. Peresie is prosecuting the case.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. For more information about Project Safe Childhood, visit www.usdoj.gov/psc.
