FRESNO, Calif. — Isaac Rodriguez, a 26-year-old member of the Arvina gang, has been hit with a severe federal charge after being indicted for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The U.S. Attorney Eric Grant announced that the charges follow a federal grand jury’s decision to indict Rodriguez on Thursday.
According to court documents, Rodriguez was caught with a weapon during an arrest on probation violation warrants. His illegal possession is all the more shocking given his past convictions, which include vehicle theft, evading arrest, and a previous conviction for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
This case has been a collaborative effort by local and federal law enforcement agencies, including the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, the Kern County District Attorney’s Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Luke Baty is now handling the prosecution.
Should Rodriguez be found guilty, he faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. However, the final decision on his sentence will rest with the court, considering various factors and the federal Sentencing Guidelines.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that combats illegal immigration, eliminates cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and safeguards communities from violent crime. Rodriguez’s charges are mere allegations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
