PITTSBURGH, Pa. – In a stunning revelation from the federal courthouse, Ronald John Kirkham Jr., 56, of Fairmont, West Virginia, has been slammed with charges of distributing child sexual abuse material and interstate transmission of extortionate communication. The indictment, unsealed today by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh, marks a significant victory for Project Safe Childhood.
According to the Indictment, Kirkham met his underage victim online when she was just 17 years old. By 2017, he had convinced her to send explicit images and videos of herself. Years later, Kirkham returned the photographs to her with an ominous threat: release more material or face public exposure.
The grim allegations carry a heavy penalty; if convicted, Kirkham could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison, fined $250,000, or both. Assistant United States Attorney Kelly M. Locher is leading the government’s charge against him.
This investigation was a joint effort by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, and North Fayette Police Department. Project Safe Childhood, launched in 2006, continues to combat child exploitation across the nation.
