Owen Lee Giles, Carjacking with Firearm, Texas 2024

BEAUMONT, Texas – In a chilling turn of events, Owen Lee Giles, a 36-year-old resident of Orange County, has been indicted on federal charges in the Eastern District of Texas. The acting U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs announced that Giles is charged with carjacking, brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

The harrowing incident occurred on June 20, 2025, when the defendant allegedly threatened serious bodily harm with a gun while taking another person’s vehicle. This case falls under Operation Take Back America, a Department of Justice initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration, eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and safeguarding communities from violent crime.

Operation Take Back America leverages the full force of OCDETFs and Project Safe Neighborhood programs to streamline efforts. If convicted, Giles could face up to 15 years in federal prison, a daunting prospect for a man already labeled as a prohibited person.

The investigation is being conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) alongside the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Reynaldo P. Morin is prosecuting this case with determination.

It is crucial to note that a federal indictment does not equate to guilt; Giles is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

This latest development adds another layer to the gripping narrative of crime and justice in Texas, leaving both residents and law enforcement alike on high alert.
