HAMMOND, Indiana – The grim tale of Craig Whalum Jr.’s descent into the depths of drug trafficking has reached its conclusion as the Crown Point man was handed a 70-month prison sentence by United States District Court Senior Judge James T. Moody.
Whalum, aged 38, pleaded guilty to distributing deadly heroin/fentanyl mixtures. His greed knew no bounds, selling the lethal substances to law enforcement on no fewer than seven occasions, according to court documents obtained by Grimy Times.
This isn’t Whalum’s first brush with the legal system. The repeat offender boasts a criminal history that includes no less than seven prior felony drug convictions. His release from the Indiana Department of Corrections on October 21, 2019, was short-lived as he resorted to selling heroin/fentanyl mixtures just nine days later.
The Drug Enforcement Administration’s Indiana High Intensity Drug Trafficking Task Force was relentless in their pursuit of Whalum. Assistant U.S. Attorney Caitlin M. Padula led the prosecution, ensuring that justice would be served for the community he had betrayed.
As a result of his actions, Whalum will serve his 70-month sentence behind bars before facing another three years of supervised release. His future is now one of endless supervision, far from the streets where he once peddled death in the form of a drug.
