New Orleans, LOUISIANA – GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: In a relentless pursuit of justice, DARWIN XAVIER GONZALEZ-MUNOZ, 30, has been handed down a 24-month sentence for illegal re-entry into the United States. Gonzalez-Munoz, previously deported, was caught re-entering the country on or around June 24, 2024.
The harsh penalty comes after Gonzalez-Munoz pleaded guilty to violating Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a). The sentence, handed down by United States District Judge Lance M. Africk, will be served consecutively.
This case is a pivotal part of Operation Take Back America, an initiative that the Department of Justice has spearheaded to combat illegal immigration and dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs). Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson commended the efforts of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Enforcement Removal Operations for their tireless work on this case.
Assistant United States Attorney Mary Katherine Kaufman, representing the General Crimes Unit, was instrumental in prosecuting Gonzalez-Munoz. The sentence underscores the government’s commitment to protecting communities from violent crime and illegal immigration.
Gonzalez-Munoz’s conviction sends a clear message that illegal re-entry will not be tolerated. As the grim tally of deportations continues to rise, law enforcement agencies remain vigilant in their pursuit of justice for all citizens.
