NEW ORLEANS – Cristian Cesre-Paz, a 32-year-old Honduran national, has been hit with a severe blow to his freedom as he pled guilty today in federal court for illegal re-entry into the United States. The court heard that Cesre-Paz, who had been previously deported, sneaked back across the border on December 27, 2006.
Cesre-Paz now faces a maximum term of imprisonment of ten years, and the judge has ordered a fine not exceeding $250,000. He’s also looking at up to three years of supervised release, with a mandatory special assessment of $100. The sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 7, 2017.
Acting U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans praised the efforts of the United States Department of Homeland Security in their investigation of this case, highlighting the agency’s dedication to keeping our borders secure. Assistant U.S. Attorney Spiro G. Latsis is the lead prosecutor on this matter.
Cesre-Paz was indicted under Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a) & (b)(1), which specifically addresses illegal re-entry of a removed alien. The judge overseeing his case, U.S. District Judge Eldon E. Fallon, has set the stage for Cesre-Paz’s sentence to be handed down in a few short months.
