Sharon Angulo, Promoting Tax Fraud, Florida 2024

The Grimy Times has uncovered a shocking tax fraud scheme in Miami, Florida, where Sharon Angulo and Claudia Zuloaga are accused of promoting a scheme to deceive the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

According to a lawsuit filed by the US government in the Southern District of Florida, Angulo and Zuloaga have been helping customers use IRS Forms 1099-OID to report fictitious income tax withholding. This scheme allegedly allows customers to file federal tax returns claiming tax refunds based on the fake withholding.

The government complaint, filed on an unspecified date, alleges that the defendants have prepared or assisted in the preparation of at least 19 tax returns reporting false withholding and claiming fraudulent tax refunds totaling more than $3 million.

The lawsuit seeks to bar Angulo and Zuloaga from promoting this tax fraud scheme and from preparing federal tax returns for others. The government is also seeking to recover the funds they received from customers who paid them a percentage of the tax refunds obtained through the scheme.

The complaint also requests that the court order Angulo and Zuloaga to provide the government with a list of all persons who have purchased any products, services, or advice from them in the past three years as part of the scheme.

This type of tax scam is one of the IRS’s Dirty Dozen Tax Scams for 2011. In the past decade, the Justice Department’s Tax Division has obtained injunctions against hundreds of tax fraud promoters and unscrupulous tax preparers.
