Assault in Eagle Butte Lands Man 37 Months

Stanley Blake Morrison, a 32-year-old man from Eagle Butte, South Dakota, has been sentenced to 37 months in custody for Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury. Morrison, who was convicted by a federal jury in July, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange on October 28, 2013.

The conviction stemmed from a January 2013 incident in which Morrison assaulted a Cherry Creek man with his fists, fracturing several facial bones and causing serious injury to the victim. The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Division conducted the investigation, and the case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mikal Hanson.

As a result of the sentence, Morrison will also serve 18 months of supervised release and pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Morrison was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service to begin serving his sentence.

The assault, which occurred in January 2013, left the victim with serious injuries. The victim’s identity was not disclosed in the press release. However, the incident highlights the alarming rate of violent crime in the region.

U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced Morrison’s sentencing, stating that the prosecution was a result of a collaborative effort between law enforcement agencies. The case serves as a reminder that violent crimes will not be tolerated in the community.

The sentencing of Morrison brings closure to the victim and their family, who can now begin the healing process. The Grimy Times will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
