Bassette’s Bloody Brawl Ends in Indictment
A Winnebago, Nebraska man is facing serious time after a bloody brawl left his victim seriously injured. Lawrence Bassette, 28, was indicted by a federal grand jury on March 13, 2013 for Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury.
According to court documents, Bassette was taken into custody on April 22, 2013, after appearing before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno. He pleaded not guilty to the indictment, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine or both, and a period of supervised release of 3 years.
The investigation into the assault is being led by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Standing Rock Agency. Assistant U.S. Attorney Troy Morley is prosecuting the case, which is still ongoing.
Bassette was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal following his arraignment. A trial date has not been set, but it’s clear that Bassette’s freedom is hanging in the balance.
The charge against Bassette is merely an accusation, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty. However, the evidence against him is mounting, and it remains to be seen how this case will play out.
As the Grimy Times continues to follow this story, one thing is clear: Bassette’s actions have serious consequences. We will provide updates on this case as more information becomes available.
