Assault Results in Shattered Dreams and a 18-Month Sentence
Oglala resident Tristan Yellow Horse, 27, will spend the next 18 months behind bars for a brutal assault that left his victim with a dislocated shoulder and extreme pain. The sentence was handed down by Chief Judge Jeffrey L. Viken on July 8, 2013.
The assault occurred on February 7, 2011, at the victim’s house, where a group of friends had gathered to watch the Super Bowl. Yellow Horse showed up after the game and, after being asked to leave, punched the victim in the face, sending him crashing to the ground.
The victim’s injuries were severe, and the incident left a lasting impact on his life. Yellow Horse’s actions were a stark reminder of the dangers of excessive drinking and the importance of de-escalating conflicts.
Yellow Horse, who pleaded guilty on March 8, 2013, was also ordered to pay $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. His conviction serves as a testament to the tireless efforts of law enforcement agencies, including the Bureau of Indian Affairs Office of Justice Services and the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety.
