Pine Ridge Woman Sentenced for Assault
A 55-year-old Pine Ridge woman has been sentenced to six months in prison for assaulting a man during an argument in February 2012.
Matilda Iron Teeth, also known as Matilda Red Shirt and Tilly, was sentenced by U.S. Magistrate Judge Veronica L. Duffy on January 3, 2013. The assault occurred during an argument, resulting in Iron Teeth striking, beating, or wounding the man.
Iron Teeth, who pleaded guilty on October 11, 2012, was also ordered to pay $10 to the victims’ assistance fund.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Justice Services, and the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety. Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Kelderman prosecuted the case.
Iron Teeth was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshal upon receiving her sentence.
U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced the sentencing in a statement, but details of the statement were not provided.
