Assaulting a Federal Officer Sentencing: Fort Hall Man Gets Prison Time

Cody Preacher, 20, a Fort Hall resident, has been sentenced to five months in prison for assaulting a federal officer. On July 17, 2013, Preacher was being placed in a police car for transport to the Fort Hall Jail when he kicked the arresting officer, Jeremy Ball of the Fort Hall Police Department, in the groin.

According to reports, Preacher was arrested on the Fort Hall Indian Reservation for intoxication and for an active arrest warrant from the Fort Hall Tribal Court. Officer Ball was treated at the hospital for his injuries.

Preacher was indicted on October 22, 2013 and pleaded guilty to the charge on March 10, 2014. The case was investigated by the Fort Hall Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The court has also ordered Preacher to spend six months in a residential rehabilitation center and three years of supervised release after his prison term. This sentence comes as a result of Preacher’s actions on that fateful day.

The harsh sentence handed down to Preacher serves as a reminder of the severity of assaulting a federal officer. This type of behavior will not be tolerated in our society.
