BROOKLYN, NY – Abdullah At Taqi has been convicted by a federal jury in Brooklyn for conspiring to provide material support to the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS), alongside co-defendant Mohammad David Hashimi. The duo faced charges of conspiracy and attempting to provide material support to the designated foreign terrorist organization, as well as conspiring to launder money.
Hashimi pleaded guilty on October 6, 2025, ahead of jury selection. Both defendants were accused of sending thousands of dollars in cryptocurrency and wire transfers to a self-proclaimed ISIS member. They now face up to 60 years’ imprisonment upon sentencing.
United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, Joseph Nocella, Jr., highlighted the defendants’ use of Bitcoin, PayPal, and GoFundMe, stating that they were instrumental in funding ISIS’s mission. “ISIS relies on supporters like these to sponsor its terrorist aims,” said Nocella.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche emphasized the intent of the defendants to procure weapons for terrorism. “Their actions will result in incarceration,” he declared.
Assistant Attorney General for National Security, John A. Eisenberg, noted that At Taqi specifically aimed to support ISIS by funneling cryptocurrency to fighters, hoping they would establish a stronghold in the Middle East. This conviction reflects the Department’s commitment to holding accountable those who finance terrorism.
FBI Assistant Director in Charge Christopher G. Raia stated that the defendants’ actions potentially facilitated the purchase of explosives and ammunition by a designated terrorist organization. NYPD Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of partnerships with law enforcement agencies to stop these dangerous individuals.
