Shelitha Robertson, PPP Fraud, Georgia 2024

ATLANTA – Shelitha Robertson, a former Assistant City Attorney and police officer, has been sentenced to seven years, three months in prison for her role in an approximately $15 million Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) fraud scheme.

The court heard that Robertson, 62, of Atlanta, Georgia, along with co-conspirator Chandra Norton, submitted false loan applications under the guise of four businesses. They inflated employee numbers and payroll figures to secure larger PPP loans, which were then used to purchase luxury items and transferred funds to Norton and her family.

‘Motivated by greed, Robertson deceptively obtained funds meant for small businesses struggling during the pandemic,’ said U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Buchanan. ‘We will continue to investigate and prosecute those who steal pandemic relief funds.’

Kyle A. Myles, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation’s Office of Inspector General, echoed the sentiment: ‘The FDIC OIG is committed to working with law enforcement to pursue justice for those who exploited pandemic relief programs.’

‘Scheming to divert vital funds from legitimate businesses undermines the integrity of SBA’s programs,’ said Amaleka McCall-Braithwaite of the SBA-OIG. ‘Our office remains steadfast in pursuing those who exploit federal programs for personal gain.’

Special Agent Mark H Morini, Jr., of TIGTA, emphasized the agency’s dedication to protecting American taxpayers: ‘We will aggressively pursue individuals who commit fraud against the American taxpayer by making false claims to obtain PPP loans intended for legitimate businesses during the pandemic.’
