Andy Peter Vongdala, MDMA Trafficking, Washington 2024

A 33-year-old Auburn man is behind bars after a massive haul of controlled substances and firearms was seized from his residence.

According to a federal criminal complaint, Andy Peter Vongdala was arrested on April 26, 2024, after a search warrant was served at his two-bedroom apartment in Auburn. At the time of his arrest, Vongdala was booked on outstanding warrants and subsequently posted bail.

However, Vongdala will be detained on the federal charges pending additional hearings. The charges include two counts of possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute and one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

During the search, police found a stolen Glock firearm and over two kilograms of MDMA in a backpack carried by Vongdala. A search of his residence revealed an additional firearm and firearm parts, along with ammunition and body armor.

The sheer quantity of drugs seized in this case is staggering, with authorities recovering 61 kilograms of MDMA, over 2,300 fentanyl pills, nearly a kilogram of methamphetamine, and smaller amounts of suspected heroin, cocaine, and alprazolam.

The charges carry serious penalties, including a mandatory minimum ten years in prison for the quantity of drugs seized. Additionally, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime is punishable by an additional five years in prison, which runs consecutive to any other sentence imposed in the case.

The case is being investigated by the Renton Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF), with Assistant United States Attorney Celia Lee handling the prosecution.

Andy Peter Vongdala’s arrest is a significant blow to the local drug trade, and authorities are hailing the seizure as a major success in their efforts to combat organized crime.
