Augustine Apkaw, Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, Arizona 2021

PHOENIX, Ariz. – On September 16, 2020, Augustine Apkaw, 34, of Phoenix, Arizona, left his victim with a broken jaw and tooth after hitting her in the face with a baseball bat.

The Gila River Police Department conducted the investigation, which led to Apkaw’s guilty plea to Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury.

On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Susan M. Brnovich sentenced Apkaw to four years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.

Apkaw, an enrolled member of the Gila River Indian Community, faces a lengthy prison term for his heinous crime.

The Assistant U.S. Attorney, Raynette Logan, handled the prosecution in this case, which highlights the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions.
