Little Rock, AR – Augustus “Gus” Shenker, 38, will spend the rest of his life in federal prison after receiving a 90-year sentence for producing and possessing child pornography. The former teacher’s assistant at Miss Selma’s School used his position of trust to sexually abuse vulnerable preschool children, documenting the crimes with sickening detail. The case, a chilling reminder of the predators lurking among us, began with a single cyber tip and culminated in a lifetime behind bars.
The FBI’s investigation kicked off in May 2021, triggered by a report of child pornography hosted on Shenker’s Dropbox account. Agents quickly discovered seven videos depicting the abuse of young children, all created by Shenker himself. He wasn’t just downloading filth; he was *making* it. A swift investigation revealed Shenker’s employment at Miss Selma’s, and a search warrant was executed both at the school and his residence.
The search of Shenker’s home unearthed a digital horror show. Investigators found six videos created in March 2021, filmed within the walls of the preschool classroom. These videos graphically depicted Shenker engaging in inappropriate contact with the children. A hidden folder on his iPhone revealed another 19 videos, all shot in the same location. Shenker’s face was clearly visible in many of these recordings, eliminating any doubt about his identity and actions. Beyond the videos, over a thousand images of child sexual abuse were discovered on his devices.
Shenker initially faced 22 counts of producing child pornography and one count of possession, following a federal grand jury indictment in June 2021. He eventually pleaded guilty to three counts of production in December 2022, attempting to mitigate the damage. It didn’t work. U.S. District Judge Lee P. Rudofsky, clearly disgusted by the evidence, handed down the maximum sentence: 30 years on each count, to run consecutively, totaling 90 years. Shenker will also be subject to a lifetime of supervised release, a formality given the length of his sentence.
During the sentencing, Judge Rudofsky made it clear: the exploitation of children will not be tolerated. The feds, led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Allison Brummel, successfully argued that Shenker’s crimes were particularly heinous, given his position of trust and the age of the victims. Shenker admitted to filming the abuse during nap time, a calculated act of predation that speaks volumes about his depravity. The investigation was conducted by the FBI’s Little Rock Field Office.
This case is a stark reminder of the importance of reporting any suspected child abuse. The initial cyber tip was the catalyst that brought Shenker to justice, and it’s crucial that the public remains vigilant. While a 90-year sentence won’t undo the harm caused to these children, it removes a dangerous predator from society and sends a powerful message to anyone contemplating similar acts: you *will* be caught, and you *will* pay the price. The victims deserve a future free from the trauma Shenker inflicted, and this sentence, while insufficient to truly mend the damage, is a step towards ensuring that future.
