Wayne Douglas Brunet, Marijuana Possession with Intent to Distribute, Texas 2023

Austin’s Wayne Douglas Brunet, 64, found himself in a world of trouble this morning after landing a plane loaded with marijuana in Llano, Texas. Federal authorities wasted no time slapping the serial offender with charges of possession with intent to distribute.

The real kicker? HSI agents were poised to stop Brunet last night when he landed his single-engine plane at an unmanned Bulverde airport, only to flee again after spotting the lawmen on the ground. The chase was on, and eventually, Brunet’s luck ran out at Llano Municipal Airport where authorities nabbed him after a foot chase.

The affidavit paints a picture of desperation as Brunet attempted several landings before making it to Llano around midnight. He tried to escape but was caught red-handed, with 15 duffle bags stuffed with vacuum-sealed packages and nearly $6,000 in cash.

Brunet’s conviction could mean between five and 40 years behind bars. His next stop? A detention hearing on Thursday at 2:15pm before United States Magistrate Judge Andrew Austin.

HSI led the investigation with support from CBP AMOC, Texas Department of Public Safety Air Unit, and Llano County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Devlin will argue the government’s case against Brunet.

Remember, a criminal complaint is just that—a charge. Brunet is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
