Baltimore, MD – Federal Judge Richard D. Bennett handed down a 14-year prison sentence to Rasan Byrd, age 39, of Houston, Texas, today for his involvement in a drug conspiracy that distributed cocaine and marijuana across Maryland.
Byrd supervised the transportation of large quantities of drugs from Arizona, where they were obtained, to Maryland. He was caught red-handed when police seized 10 kilograms of cocaine and approximately 350 pounds of marijuana during an April 22, 2013 raid on his associates’ properties in Baltimore.
The investigation revealed that Byrd had overseen over 88 shipments between 2009 and the raid date. His brothers, Harold Alexander Byrd, age 27, and Joseph Ibreham Byrd, age 35, were also involved and sentenced to 10 years each. Jerome Adolfo Castle, a/k/a Dontwon Burris, was sentenced to 14 years for his role and ordered to forfeit $57,997 in cash and several assets.
Assistant United States Attorneys James G. Warwick and Kenneth S. Clark prosecuted the case, with commendations from U.S. Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein for the DEA, Baltimore County Police Department, Maryland Transportation Authority Police, IRS-Criminal Investigation, and HSI-Baltimore.
Maurice Jones, age 60 of Baltimore, received a seven-year sentence for his involvement in the conspiracy.
