Ashley Onysko, 23, of Avon Lake, Ohio, has pleaded guilty to human trafficking and drug trafficking charges after admitting to forcing four women, including two teenagers, into sex for money. The grim revelation came from law enforcement officials, who detailed the sordid scheme that spanned over a year.
Onysko, along with her co-defendant Jeremy Mack, 37, of Elyria, orchestrated the exploitation of their victims by providing them with heroin and cocaine. As debt piled up, Onysko coerced the women into engaging in commercial sex acts, using threats and force to maintain control over them.
The couple even took to backpage.com to advertise their victims, posting photographs under a user account they created on December 25, 2012. Proceeds from the sex acts were funneled back to Onysko and Mack, according to an indictment.
United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, Steven M. Dettelbach, expressed his outrage over the case, stating, ‘This woman helped force teens to have sex for money. These activities happen all around us, and it’s our responsibility to end these crimes.’
FBI Special Agent in Charge Stephen D. Anthony echoed the sentiments, emphasizing, ‘The FBI will utilize all necessary resources to bring justice to those who victimize our youth.’ Elyria Police Chief Duane Whitely praised the collaboration between local police and federal law enforcement.
Onysko is scheduled to be sentenced on January 14, 2014. Her co-defendant, Mack, awaits trial. Assistant United States Attorneys Bridget M. Brennan and Carole Skutnik are prosecuting the case, following an investigation by the FBI and Elyria Police Department.
