Azriel Irene Westfall, Possession with Intent to Distribute Heroin and Methamphetamine, West Virginia 2018

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – In a shocking case of drug trafficking, Azriel Irene Westfall, a 20-year-old woman from Akron, Ohio, has pleaded guilty to a federal drug trafficking crime. This comes after a thorough investigation conducted by the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team (MDENT) and the Drug Enforcement Administration.

According to the prosecution, Westfall was carrying a deadly mix of heroin and carfentanil, a powerful fentanyl analogue, in her purse when she was arrested. The investigators also found almost 10 grams of heroin and around 3 grams of ice methamphetamine in her possession. Furthermore, Westfall had over $6,000 in drug proceeds in her purse.

This is a significant victory for the authorities in their fight against drug trafficking. Project Charleston, which led to Westfall’s arrest, has shut down a significant drug trafficking organization operating between Akron and Charleston.

“Westfall was carrying death and destruction in her purse,” said United States Attorney Mike Stuart. “Project Charleston shut down a significant drug trafficking organization operating between Akron and Charleston. We will continue to hold poison peddlers responsible and put them behind bars for as long as possible.”

On February 28, 2018, police investigators executed a search warrant on a drug house on Mountain Road in Charleston, where Westfall was staying with several other people. The investigators searched Westfall’s purse and found the aforementioned substances and cash.

Westfall now faces up to 20 years in federal prison when she is sentenced on August 7, 2019. Assistant United States Attorney Drew O. Inman is handling the prosecution.

The case is a stark reminder of the dangers of drug trafficking and the importance of law enforcement efforts to combat it. As the investigation continues, it is clear that Westfall’s actions had the potential to cause widespread harm to the community.

With this guilty plea, Westfall is now one step closer to serving her time for her crimes. The people of West Virginia can rest a little easier knowing that justice is being served.
