NEW ORLEANS, LA – Another gun-toting ex-con is looking at serious time. Yesterday, QUENDRICK BAILEY, 27, of New Orleans, pled guilty to federal weapons charges, admitting he illegally possessed a firearm despite a prior felony conviction. U.S. District Court Judge Carl J. Barbier accepted the plea, setting the stage for a potentially lengthy prison sentence.
According to court documents, BAILEY was initially convicted of a felony back in 2017. Fast forward to June 12, 2022, and he was caught with a firearm – a clear violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924(a)(2). The feds don’t mess around with repeat offenders and illegal firearms.
If Judge Barbier follows sentencing guidelines, BAILEY is facing a maximum of 10 years behind bars. That’s not all; he could also be slapped with a fine of up to $250,000, and a supervised release period of up to 3 years after he serves his time. Add in the mandatory $100 assessment fee, and it’s a hefty price to pay for a bad decision.
U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans highlighted the case as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a federal initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence. The program emphasizes collaboration between law enforcement at all levels and community involvement. The Department launched a strengthened PSN strategy in May 2021, focusing on building trust, supporting community organizations, and strategic enforcement.
The investigation was a joint effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the New Orleans Police Department. Evans praised both agencies for their work in getting BAILEY off the streets. Assistant United States Attorney Inga Petrovich, of the Violent Crime Unit, is prosecuting the case, ensuring that the full weight of federal law is brought to bear.
