BALTIMORE, MD – Delroy Williams, Jr., 32, of Baltimore, is facing serious time after a federal jury found him guilty of conspiracy to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine, possession with intent to distribute cocaine and marijuana. The verdict came late May 20, 2019, but the road to justice was paved with flight and violence.
According to courtroom testimony, Williams ran a drug operation in the Baltimore area from at least October 2016 through December 12, 2016. But his business wasn’t confined to simple transactions. On the evening of December 12th, Williams encountered an associate at a Baltimore County nightclub, a man he believed owed him money. The meeting quickly devolved into a brutal assault, robbery, and a shooting. Williams didn’t stop there – he rammed the victim’s car before making his escape. Fearing retribution, Williams packed up his drug stash and stashed it at his girlfriend’s home in Glen Burnie, Maryland.
Law enforcement wasn’t far behind. A search warrant executed at the Glen Burnie residence the following day turned up a significant haul: nearly five kilos of cocaine, several pounds of marijuana, and two firearms. The search didn’t end there. Authorities also raided Williams’s truck, recovering even more marijuana – several more pounds – along with over $213,000 in cash, scales used for weighing drugs, and pistol ammunition. The evidence painted a clear picture of a large-scale drug operation and a man willing to use violence to protect his interests.
Williams initially fled, becoming a fugitive from justice before his original trial date in November 2018. He was finally apprehended on January 11, 2019, and has been held in custody ever since. His attempt to evade justice only added to his mounting legal troubles. The conviction was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Robert K. Hur, alongside leaders from the Drug Enforcement Administration, Baltimore County Police Department, and Anne Arundel County Police Department.
Now, Williams faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison, with the potential for a life sentence. U.S. District Judge Ellen L. Hollander has scheduled his sentencing for August 20, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a federal program aimed at reducing violent crime through collaborative law enforcement efforts.
US Attorney Hur praised the work of the DEA, Baltimore County PD, and Anne Arundel County PD, and extended thanks to the FBI, ATF, and U.S. Marshals for their assistance in the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Zachary B. Stendig and John W. Sippel, Jr. prosecuted the case. This conviction sends a message: drug trafficking and violence will not be tolerated in Baltimore, and those who engage in such activities will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.
