Baltimore, Maryland – In a shocking turn of events, a federal jury has convicted two Baltimore area men of kidnapping, carjacking, and firearms charges. Dennis Allen Hairston, 34, of Windsor Mill, Maryland, and Donte Davon Stanley, 33, of Rosedale, Maryland, were found guilty of conspiracy to commit kidnapping, conspiracy to affect commerce by robbery, and other related charges.
The guilty verdict was announced by Erek L. Barron, United States Attorney for the District of Maryland, and his team of investigators. The investigation, which involved the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Baltimore Police Department, the Baltimore County Police Department, and the Harford County Sheriff’s Office, revealed a brazen scheme to abduct and rob check cashing business employees.
According to trial testimony, Hairston and Stanley planned and organized the kidnapping of three victims, including two employees of check cashing businesses. The defendants surveilled their victims, attaching tracking devices to their vehicles, before posing as police officers to stop and abduct them. The victims were bound, blindfolded, and subjected to physical abuse, including being burned with a blowtorch.
The first victim was abducted on May 5-6, 2021, after being followed from her workplace. Hairston and Stanley wore police vests and badges, brandished firearms, and used a police-style light bar to pull over her vehicle. The victim was handcuffed, zip-tied, and forced into a vehicle operated by the defendants, where she was subjected to physical abuse.
Hairston was convicted of using, carrying, and brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. Both defendants were acquitted of conduct related to a third abduction. The guilty verdict was met with strong statements from law enforcement officials, who vowed to continue fighting against violent crime in the Baltimore area.
“My office will not tolerate carjackings,” stated U.S. Attorney Barron. “We’re collaborating with our partners to prosecute these crimes and hold offenders accountable to the fullest extent of the law.” The defendants are facing significant prison time for their crimes, which demonstrate a reckless disregard for human life and safety.
