Baltimore Heroin Trafficker Sentenced to 12 Years
Baltimore, MD – In a harsh verdict delivered by U.S. District Judge Catherine C. Blake, Jeffrey Cofield, 26, of Baltimore, was sentenced to 12 years in prison followed by four years of supervised release for conspiring to distribute heroin. The sentence was handed down on [date] following a thorough investigation led by the United States Attorney for the District of Maryland, Rod J. Rosenstein.
According to court documents, Cofield engaged in the distribution of heroin in Baltimore City from July to December 2012. He instructed coconspirators on how to store and prepare heroin, as well as the storage, collection and transfer of money received from the heroin distribution. The distribution of at least one kilogram or more of heroin was reasonably foreseeable to Cofield.
Additionally, the court ordered Cofield to forfeit $58,531 seized on December 11, 2012, during the execution of search warrants. Cofield’s plea agreement revealed a significant network of heroin distribution in Baltimore City, highlighting the severity of the crime.
The sentence was welcomed by law enforcement officials, who commended the DEA, Baltimore Police Department, and Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office for their work in the investigation. United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein commended the agencies, saying, ‘I commend the DEA, Baltimore Police Department and Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office for their work in the investigation.’
The Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Michael C. Hanlon and Special Assistant United States Attorney H. Brandis Marsh, Jr., a cross-designated Baltimore City Assistant State’s Attorney assigned to Exile cases.
