Robert Goguen, Child Exploitation, Maine 2017

A Bangor man has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for possessing images of child sexual exploitation and violating his supervised release.

U.S. District Judge John A. Woodcock, Jr. handed down the sentence to Robert Goguen, 46, for possessing images of child sexual exploitation and violating the terms of his supervised release. The total prison time includes 14 years for the child exploitation charges and two years for the supervised release violation.

Robert Goguen was also sentenced to 20 years of supervised release following his term of imprisonment. He pleaded guilty and admitted to violating the conditions of his supervised release on September 15, 2017.

A forensic search of Goguen’s laptop computer, seized by U.S. probation officers on November 10, 2015, revealed images and videos of child sexual exploitation that he had downloaded and saved. At the time, Goguen was on federal supervised release following a 2012 conviction for failing to register as a sex offender.

The investigation into the case was led by Homeland Security Investigations and the Bangor Police Department.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006. The program marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
