DALLAS – A Hutchins, Texas, man was sentenced to 90 years in federal prison for producing child pornography, announced U.S. Attorney John Parker of the Northern District of Texas.
Servando Vega Cervantes, 25, pleaded guilty in February 2015 to three counts of production of child pornography involving four victims, U.S. District Judge Jane J. Boyle ruled.
The investigation began in May 2014 when the Hutchins Police Department contacted the FBI about suspicious online activity between an 11-year-old boy and a Facebook user profile, ‘Laura Ortiz,’ which belonged to Cervantes.
Under the alias ‘Jordan,’ Cervantes enticed the child to engage in sexually explicit conduct and took photos of the act. He also asked another minor to send explicit photos to ‘Laura Ortiz’ and had explicit photos of a 15-year-old boy on a thumb drive.
Cervantes had sex with two of the four victims. The investigation revealed that the victims were John Doe #1, #2, #3, and #4.
The FBI’s Dallas Child Exploitation Task Force and the Hutchins Police Department investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Camille Sparks handled the prosecution.
This marks the 10th anniversary of the Project Safe Childhood initiative, a federal effort to combat child exploitation crimes. Since FY 2011, the U.S. government has filed 20,260 cases against 19,111 defendants.
