Bank Robber Pleads Guilty in Overland Park Heist

A brazen bank robbery in Overland Park, Kansas, ended with a guilty plea from the perpetrator on Monday. Paul A. Sundquist, 29, of Louisburg, Kansas, admitted to robbing the Stanley Bank on September 19, 2016.

According to the investigation, Sundquist walked into the bank, 7835 W. 151st, and handed a note to a clerk demanding money. The clerk, unaware of the situation, complied with Sundquist’s demands, handing over cash. Sundquist then fled the scene in his pickup truck.

A bystander, witnessing the scene, managed to get a partial tag number of Sundquist’s vehicle. This crucial piece of information allowed police to track Sundquist down. However, Sundquist, aware of the police pursuit, took a surprising turn by monitoring police radio traffic on his cell phone. When he heard that the police had his tag number, Sundquist called 911 and surrendered.

U.S. Attorney Tom Beall commended the FBI, the Overland Park Police Department, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Terra Morehead for their tireless efforts in solving the case.

Sundquist faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Sentencing will be set for a later date.
