PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A notorious bank robber has been brought to justice after pleading guilty to nine counts of bank robbery, announced United States Attorney Peter F. Neronha.
Justin L. Worley, 34, appeared before U.S. District Court Judge William E. Smith, where he admitted to robbing eight financial institutions in Rhode Island between April 16, 2012, and September 18, 2012, and one financial institution in Seekonk, Mass., on February 23, 2012.
The total amount stolen from the banks adds up to a staggering $32,633. Worley’s crime spree was a cause for concern for law enforcement, who worked tirelessly to bring him to justice.
The robberies were investigated by the Barrington, Cranston, East Providence, North Providence, Pawtucket, Seekonk, and Warwick Police Departments, as well as the FBI.
Worley’s luck ran out on September 19, 2012, when he was arrested at a motel in Seekonk by East Providence and Seekonk police.
Worley has been in federal custody since November 15, 2012, and is scheduled to be sentenced on May 24, 2013. The maximum statutory penalty for bank robbery is 20 years in federal prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of supervised release of 3 years.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys William J. Ferland and Paul F. Daly, Jr. are leading the prosecution of Worley’s case.
The people of Rhode Island can rest a little easier knowing that one of their most notorious bank robbers is behind bars. Worley’s guilty plea is a testament to the hard work and dedication of law enforcement agencies who worked together to bring him to justice.
