Buffalo Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Transporting Minor for Sex
A 23-year-old Buffalo man has been sentenced to 120 months’ imprisonment for transporting a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity. Trevoen Renel Parkins was handed the sentence by United States District Court Judge Sylvia H. Rambo, who also ordered him to serve 10 years of supervised release and pay a $1,000 fine.
According to the investigation, Parkins met a 12-year-old victim online and brought her to Pennsylvania from Buffalo, New York, without her parents’ knowledge. He then took her to Buffalo, where he statutorily raped her twice. The girl was hidden in a closet at Parkins’ girlfriend’s apartment for three days before being located by police.
Parkins was arrested after law enforcement tracked down his phone records, which revealed his location during the time the girl went missing. He initially lied to police about the girl’s whereabouts, further complicating the investigation.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Pennsylvania State Police, and the Buffalo City, New York Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Daryl F. Bloom prosecuted the case.
U.S. Attorney Peter Smith praised the efforts of law enforcement in bringing Parkins to justice. ‘This case highlights the importance of cooperation between local, state, and federal agencies in protecting our children from predators,’ Smith said.
The sentence serves as a reminder of the severe consequences for those who engage in such heinous crimes. Parkins’ actions have caused irreparable harm to the young victim, and his punishment is a testament to the commitment of law enforcement to hold perpetrators accountable.
The community can rest assured that those who prey on the vulnerable will be brought to justice. This case is a prime example of the dedication of law enforcement to protecting our children and upholding the law.
