Orental James Allen Jr, Armed Bank Robbery, Florida 2013

<p>Fort Myers man Orental James Allen Jr. has been handed a 10-year prison sentence for his role in a brazen armed bank robbery in 2013.

The 23-year-old, along with two other individuals, stormed the Fifth Third Bank on Cleveland Avenue in Fort Myers on December 23, 2013. The trio, all armed, jumped over the bank teller counter, forcing bank employees to hand over a total of $5,499 in cash.

According to court documents, Allen, who was a convicted felon at the time, used a firearm to intimidate a bank employee, forcing them to accompany him at gunpoint from an office to the bank lobby.

The Fort Myers Police Department, assisted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, conducted a thorough investigation into the incident.

During a traffic stop on January 18, 2014, officers discovered a firearm and ammunition in a vehicle Allen was riding in, leading to his arrest and subsequent charges.

Allen pleaded guilty to the charges on August 19, 2015, and was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison, with a court-ordered money judgment of $5,499, the proceeds of the armed bank robbery. He was also ordered to forfeit a .40 caliber Sig Sauer P229 pistol and ammunition.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of committing crimes with firearms, particularly for those with a history of convictions.

Assistant United States Attorneys Yolande G. Viacava and Michael Baggé-Hernández prosecuted the case, which was a collaborative effort between multiple law enforcement agencies.
