On September 6, 2025, at approximately 11:40 a.m., Joseph Wilcox, 58, of Dorchester, walked into a Santander Bank in East Boston, approached the bank teller, and handed over a note demanding $20 bills. Wilcox, who has a history of prior convictions for bank robbery and armed robbery, threatened the teller, saying ‘don’t **** with me.’ The teller complied, handing over $4,150 in cash.

Wilcox was arrested on October 1, 2025, and later indicted by a federal grand jury in October 2025. On June 11, 2026, he pleaded guilty to one count of bank robbery in federal court in Boston.

Wilcox’s prior convictions include a 2015 federal conviction for three counts of bank robbery, as well as state convictions for unarmed robbery in 2010 and armed robbery in 2004. He faces up to 20 years in prison, up to three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000 for the current bank robbery charge.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Julissa Walsh of the Major Crimes Unit, with the announcement made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Ted E. Docks, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Boston Division. Sentencing is scheduled for September 17, 2026.
