A 66-year-old man from Euclid, Ohio, Mason Hart, has pleaded guilty to a brazen bank robbery that took place on February 17. Hart walked into the Fifth Third Bank on Lakeshore Boulevard, Euclid, around 1 p.m., and handed a demand note to a teller, claiming he had a bomb in a shoe box. The note read: ‘I HAVE A BOMB IN THE BOX ITS REMOTE CONTROL ACTAUATE DO AS I SAY AND NOBODY WILL GET HURT.’ The teller, fearing for their safety, handed over $920 in cash.
Hart then fled the bank on foot but was later apprehended by authorities. The FBI Cleveland Division investigated the case, which is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Scott Zarzycki for the Northern District of Ohio.
Hart’s guilty plea was accepted by U.S. District Judge Charles Esque Fleming. He is scheduled to be sentenced on November 10 and faces a prison sentence of up to 57 months. The court will determine the sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
