A 35-year-old Cleveland man has admitted to sending and receiving child sex abuse materials and coercing a 14-year-old girl to meet him for sex. Michael Strimbu pleaded guilty to the charges in federal court on June 25. He communicated with the girl through social media in January, expressing interest in meeting her for sex. Strimbu was later arrested and found to have hundreds of images and videos of minors engaged in sex acts on his devices.
Strimbu’s guilty plea includes charges of Receipt and Possession of Child Pornography, and Coercion and Enticement. He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced on November 10. The case was investigated by the Cuyahoga County Crimes Against Children Task Force and Homeland Security Investigations.
The prosecution is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sex abuse and exploitation. The project is led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and aims to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children online.
Strimbu’s case highlights the growing concern of child sex abuse and exploitation in the United States. The use of social media and online platforms has made it easier for predators to target and groom minors. Law enforcement agencies are working to combat this epidemic and bring perpetrators to justice.
