Hannaweeke, 61, Charged with Aggravated Sexual Abuse of Children
A 61-year-old man from Zuni, New Mexico, has been charged with a serious crime that has left the community shaken. Stanton Hannaweeke, an enrolled member of the Pueblo of Zuni, faces a lifetime imprisonment if convicted of the aggravated sexual abuse with children.
According to a criminal complaint, Hannaweeke allegedly began touching the victim, a minor, approximately 3 to 4 years prior to the report. The victim’s siblings corroborated the report, stating that they either witnessed the incidents or Jane Doe had told them about the prior incidents.
This case is a stark reminder of the importance of reporting suspicious behavior and the need for the community to come together to prevent child abuse. The FBI and local law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to bring those responsible for these heinous crimes to justice.
The Gallup Resident Agency of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office investigated this case with assistance from the Zuni Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert James Booth II is prosecuting the case.
The defendant, Stanton Hannaweeke, will remain in custody pending a preliminary and detention hearing scheduled for September 13, 2023. It is essential to note that a complaint is only an allegation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
