ROSHEI EDWARDS, a 27-year-old Baton Rouge native, found himself standing before U.S. Chief Judge Shelly D. Dick today after he pleaded guilty to an array of firearms and drug charges. Edwards has been charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon, possession with intent to distribute heroin and oxycodone, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime.
In what authorities describe as a brazen display of disregard for the law, Edwards admitted to having a loaded Glock, model 21, .45 caliber pistol; a stolen Springfield, model XD40, .40 caliber pistol; a stolen Glock, model 26, 9mm pistol; and a Bushmaster, model Carbon 15, .223 caliber rifle. The arsenal was accompanied by rounds of ammunition ranging from .223 to .45 caliber, totaling ninety rounds. Edwards also possessed 29.17 grams of heroin and forty-one dosage units of oxycodone.
The authorities’ suspicion was well-founded. On September 5, 2017, Louisiana State Probation and Parole agents conducted a compliance check at Edwards’ home, where they discovered the illegal cache. The loaded Bushmaster rifle was found in a closet next to the drugs, adding another layer of danger to an already heinous crime.
EDWARDS has a prior record that includes convictions for simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling and possession of MDMA, both serious felonies. His latest conviction could lead to a significant term of imprisonment, a fine, and supervised release.
“The fact that Mr. Edwards, a two-time convicted felon out on probation, possessed guns and drugs demonstrates a blatant disregard for the judicial system,” said U.S. Attorney Brandon J. Fremin. “Our efforts to hold such individuals accountable are unwavering.”
This case was handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Louisiana in collaboration with the ATF, Louisiana State Probation and Parole, and Assistant United States Attorney Will Morris.
