BEAUMONT, Texas – It’s a grim tale of crime that has the community on edge. A pair accused of carjacking in Beaumont is now staring down federal charges. Jason Lee Smith, 28, and Joanna Kyle Glover, 33, have been charged with a federal violation stemming from a June 2025 carjacking incident.

The duo allegedly forcefully snatched a vehicle from its rightful owner on June 28, 2025. According to the federal indictment, Smith was armed during the heist. Both faces serious charges, with Smith also being accused of brandishing a firearm during the crime of violence.

This high-stakes case is part of Operation Take Back America, a Department of Justice initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration, eliminating cartels, and protecting communities from violent criminals. The operation leverages resources from the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).

Conviction for carjacking could land Smith and Glover up to 15 years in federal prison. The firearm charge against Smith carries a life sentence. This investigation is a collaborative effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Beaumont Police Department.

The defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. Assistant U.S. Attorney Reynaldo P. Morin is leading the prosecution.
